We have all fantasized about sticking your head in the freezer and I am not ashamed to say I’ve tried. While some of us are thinking about canceling summer altogether. As usual you’re not alone and you’re definitely not without options. Here are some natural remedies that can help you manage your internal inferno.

  1. Black Cohosh - Nature’s hormone whisperer

Black cohosh could have been brewed by a woodland witch as it’s one of those ancient herbal remedies that’s been used for centuries to reduce hot flashes, night sweats, and in general menopausal mayhem. It’s a North American root known for it’s heeling powers. Best taken as a supplement 20–40 MG daily. This herb is gentle and effective and best taken with food.

  2. Evening Primrose oil - For the GIRLS!

This golden elixir is full GLA, fatty acid that may help a balance hormones and ease breast tenderness and balance hormones. Best taken in capsule form 500 MG -1,300 MG 1 to 3 times per day. For menopause related symptoms, some women benefit from 1000–3000 MG.

  3. Ground flaxseed - sexy, subtle, and full of phytoestrogens

Flaxseed is the unsung hero of the hormonal battlefield. It’s rich in lignans which are a phytoestrogen that gently mimics estrogen in the body helping to cool the hormonal chaos of menopause. Simply sprinkle it on yogurt or in a smoothie or you can mix it into your morning oatmeal. It has a slightly nutty flavor, which is delicious.

  4. Soy products - Hello edamame

Soy has been both worshiped and canceled in the wellness world, but when it comes to hot flashes, it’s kind of a diva. The isoflavonones in soy also can mimic estrogen in the body helping to regulate hot flashes. Just go for organic sources like tofu, soy milk, or edamame. Keep it simple.

  5. Sage tea - Grandma knew what she was doing

Sage isn’t just for stuffing turkeys or enhancing winter soups. When brewed into a tea, it is an anti-sweat savior. Drink it hot if you’re feeling bold, or sip it iced and garnish with a slice of lemon while pretending you’re in a spa commercial. Awwwwe! Sage may reduce hot flashes, night sweats, and the desire to scream at strangers.

As you mist your beautiful yet sweaty selves with rosewater understand that these remedies won’t replace hormone therapy. But if some extra TLC is what your body needs, these natural options are lovely, low effort ways to support yourself through the heat. Try one, try them all, and most importantly listen to your body and not just your mood swings.
